The village of San Pablo is located in the Stann Creek District of Belize, nestled in a region of lush jungle and banana farms, near the village of Red Bank. The community is home to a population of approximately 280 residents, with many of the families being of Q’eqchi’ Maya descent. They are a multilingual community, with many residents speaking Q’eqchi’, Spanish, and English. The economy of the village is centered on subsistence farming, with families cultivating the land to provide for themselves. Over 80% of the community members live in thatch roof homes.
The school itself is a hub of community life and serves students from San Pablo and surrounding communities. The project’s leader, Mr. Pablo, is a dedicated principal who lives in the neighboring village of Red Bank and commutes to school by bicycle, embodying the humble and committed spirit of the local leadership. He personally reached out to GO Serve to connect their community with a group eager to serve.
